Clean Waters Week – 12–18 September 2025, Brașov
Clean Waters Week is an event organized as part of the Clean Olt – Roots for the Future project, implemented by Propark – Foundation for Protected Areas together with the Romanian Wilderness Society and Carpaterra Association, under the Cu Apele Curate initiative supported by Lidl Romania. The event will take place between 12–18 September 2025 in the Brașov metropolitan area.
What is “Clean Waters Week”?
It is a themed week dedicated to environmental education and community engagement—designed as a platform for dialogue, learning, and action around the issue of water pollution, especially plastic pollution, and sustainable ways of protecting water resources. The program addresses both the general public and local communities, as well as relevant institutions.
Activities during Clean Waters Week:
· Interactive stations with augmented reality – illustrating the impact of plastic on aquatic ecosystems.
· Multimedia caravan – film screenings and educational workshops.
· Robotics and smart recycling workshops – for children and young people. Using Ozobots and Micro:bits, students from local communities will be challenged to develop technology-based solutions to local issues such as sorting and recycling. Participants will also discover an innovative 3D printing system using recycled materials, helping reduce environmental impact.
· Launch of an educational nature trail – with panels on the biodiversity of the Olt River and the ecological challenges it faces.
· Discussion panels – with environmental specialists, local administrations, and key conservation actors.
For Propark – Foundation for Protected Areas, Clean Waters Week is more than a one-time event: it is a strategic intervention with clear, long-term objectives. Propark believes that environmental education, community involvement, and collaboration with public authorities are essential to addressing today’s environmental challenges.
Through this initiative, Propark aims to:
· Tackle plastic pollution at its source, not just through cleanup actions.
· Provide replicable good practice models for other communities facing similar issues.
· Foster a culture of respect for water and its vital role in community life.
· Help build a generation of nature educators, supporting the integration of these skills into schools and initiatives such as Green Week and School Otherwise.
· Strengthen collaboration networks between organizations, administrations, and citizens around a common goal: protecting nature.
