Pristine forests for future generations

The aim of the project is to increase the level of awareness of children and young people in biodiversity conservation and pristine forests ecosystems that provide critical environmental service to society by developing an environmental education program that prepares responsible adults in the interest of nature protection within the Carpathian region of Romania.

Project objectives

 

1. Foster a lifelong appreciation and sense of stewardship for the environment and raise awareness of the value of outdoor and environmental education and interpretation based on pristine forests ecosystems through at least 46 lessons and excursions and reaching over 30.000 children and adults during the project implementation. 

 

2. Extend the impact of the project by building capacity of the national park and forest manager, as well as of local teachers in using the outdoors to enrich their curricula and programmes through at least one targeted capacity-building event that will build knowledge and skills for building environmental education programmes and using nature interpretation techniques.

 

Main activities of the project:

 

• Developing an environmental education program based on pristine forest ecosystems

• Develop a thematic trail for Sinca Pristine Forest Unesco Site

• Building capacity for the protected area administrators and local teachers on environmental education and nature interpretation techniques based on the unique values of their site.

• Organizing 38 lessons in local schools 

• Organizing 8 excursions in pristine forests together with the national park and forest management teams

• Raising public awareness by organizing educational stands with the protected area management staff and local teachers at 3 different festivals organized around the protected areas 

• Organize a final meeting with the representatives of the protected areas and discuss follow up
