Presentation of the project: "Creation of a wild area in the Făgăraș Mountains"

ProPark together with the Foundation Conservation Carpathia (FCC) invited to Rucăr on 17-19 August representatives of the most important environmental NGOs in Romania to present the initiative of the project "Creation of a wild area in the Făgăraș Mountains", with financially support through the Endangered Landscape Programs.

 

Over the course of the planned days, more than 20 nature conservation experts, decision-makers in the organizations they represent, had the opportunity to get to know a part of the ProPark and FCC team and get to know the work started more than 10 years ago.

 

The first day was devoted to a round table meeting in which FCC representatives had the opportunity to present the most important achievements structured on the 5 pillars of their work: forest conservation, ecological reconstruction, wildlife, communication and local communities and green businesses, nature-based.

 

The second day involved field trips where participants could visit:

• nurseries that the FCC developed on the Dâmbovița Valley

• one of the first ecological reconstruction sites and we saw what a sustained work means in order to renaturalize some areas affected by cutting

• Destroyed areas that the FCC plans to replant

• Richita Ecological Education Center developed for children, young people and volunteer activities for the conservation of the Făgăraş Mountains

• The Poiana Tamaş area and the wildlife observatory from Bunea are a model of nature-based tourism, tourism that can bring a consistent source of income in local communities

• the area of ​​the pens of the first bison in the Făgăraș Mountains, a pen that was home until May 2020 to the 8 bison brought in the autumn of last year, now free, and which will host the future bison in the coming months.

 

The last day of the meeting was intended for discussions and clarifications related to what was seen on the field and the establishment together of a collaboration for the protection and conservation of the Făgăraș Mountains in the medium and long term.
