Protected Area Governance in Eastern Europe
Workshop “Governance of Protected Areas in Eastern Europe - case studies on different governance types and lessons learned”- Isle of Vilm, 2- 5 December 2012
The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) together with the ProPark Foundation for Protected Areas Romania is organizing the workshop Governance of Protected Areas in Eastern Europe which will be held at the International Academy for Nature Conservation Isle of Vilm in Germany from 02 – 05 December 2012.
The workshop aims to:
- to promote the project results and to discuss the findings and conclusions of the study with the national level representatives;
- to increase awareness on the CBD requirements concerning PA governance amongst decision-makers form the Eastern European target countries;
- to improve the knowledge of national level representatives on governance by providing them with a theoretical background and with some practical examples from the region;
- to discuss if there is a real need for and possibility to develop a methodology/tool to assess governance and/or a special reporting format on PA governance and demonstrate progress in implementing Goal 2 from the PoWPA;
- to discuss the need/opportunity for further action and ways and means how to give incentives to CBD-Parties to engage them in taking more concrete measures in improving and diversifying the governance of protected areas
The workshop is targeted to experts and representatives from the ministries from Eastern European countries, as well as to experts whose work is related to the target region, such as representatives from NGOs, expert networks and organisations, the EU, UNDP, the CBD-Secretariat.
